It's a jungle out there scanning the artistic horizons. I am taking
an "Art Safari" before the art exhibits are extinct. As you plan your summer getaways, don't forget
to discover all the diversity the Sunshine State has to offer.
What's hot? "The All Florida Juried
Competition" is at the
Boca Raton Museum of Art from June 10-August 30. Emerging artists from all
over the state are vying for a spot to show off their work. You say you are not a member. Doesn't
matter! Palm Beach County residents are free with a valid ID June 13, 14, July 11, 12, August 8 and 9.
If you are a member, please note their summer hours, they are closed Monday and Tuesdays. |

Wild people hit the road, getting the lay of the land. With a straw
bag filled with maps, notes, and my recommendations. You don't have to travel all the way to Orlando
to get a glimpse of Disney Magic. Just travel as far
|
as the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach to
see their exhibit "Disney: The Music Behind the Magic, 1928-Today" which will be there June 6-September
6. It highlights the role music played in Disney's success.

While you are there, explore my favorite medium, sculpture.
"Off the Wall: The Human Form in Sculpture" features art of the figure in three dimensions.
Over 30 pieces of sculpture can be seen that have been carved, modeled or welded from the 1700's to the present.
From our northernmost destination, I am taking you down the road apiece.
The Cornell Museum of Art and History
in Delray Beach has one of America's top pop culture icons on display again. Barbie is back! Can you
believe she is 50? Hundreds of dolls and accessories will be there to celebrate Tuesdays through
Saturday, 10:30am-4:30pm. A great time to take the grandchildren as ages 13 and under are free.
On the road again, set your sights for
Women in the Visual Arts' "Making an Artist's Book" at Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton June 19 at
noon. I'm looking forward to catching you there!

These days it seems everyone is trying to be more economical.
It doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy art around town. Public art should be an experience
that brings that glowing feeling for free if you check things out. You can walk down a street and just
feel better because of the way the environment is affected by the art.
Don and I just visited Mizner
Park. There are sculptures from a wonderful artist Rabarama in the park. We are members of the
Boca
Raton Museum of Art, because I also belong to the Artist Guild, but it didn't matter because Wednesday
nights are free to the public from 5-9pm. We were there to see the two new exhibits that just arrived,
"Cleve Gray: Man and Nature" and "Andrew Stevovich: The Truth About Lola." They are
as opposite as can be in art. Cleve’s work is totally abstract, and Andrew’s is filled with
figurative characters. Both exhibits will be there until May 31 along with the drawings of large scale
sculptures by John Henry. |

There is so much going on, a little something to please everyone.
You should also take a peek at the pointillist technique of David Maxwell, hidden away in the Museum
auditorium behind the gift
|
shop. The Exhibition shows his artwork that contains thousands of little dots of paint, to form
amazing scenes from views of the city and construction sites.

Another event coming up on Thursday, May 7, is Jazz on the Avenue
in Delray Beach. You can stroll down 2nd Avenue and admire the outdoor sculptures, or visit many
of the galleries that will be open that evening. Stop by at the Artist Guild’s Gallery at
512 E. Atlantic Avenue to see their new exhibit.
Women in the Visual Arts is winding down from a major High School
Scholarship Awards campaign where they just gave away over $18,000 in art scholarships and
awards. Their next meeting is May 15, noon, at Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton where award-winning
photographer, Janice Cohen is giving a free demonstration on photographing flowers. Just snap up
the chance to enjoy!
